The Emerald Cut
by Michelle ~ March 22nd, 2009. Filed under: Diamond Cutting. There are many different styles of diamond cuts and the emerald cut is one of these. It is becoming an increasingly popular choice for fashion jewellery and for diamond necklaces. It has not been one of the most favoured cuts for a long time because all the inclusions and fragments of trapped metals in the diamond can sometimes be seen. It also has less clarity than diamond’s cut in other styles, but, if you are looking for an unusual piece of fashion jewellery, the emerald cut could be just what you want. An emerald cut diamond is a diamond which is in the shape of a rectangle, but which has cut corners. It is sometimes also referred to as a step cut because the facets of the diamond resemble the steps of a wide staircase.
It has often been much more expensive than other cuts and this is probably why it is associated with wealth and royalty. It can be difficult to pick out the perfect emerald cut because if you choose one which is too broad, the clarity of the diamond is sometimes highlighted to a negative effect.
