Your wedding ring is designed to last forever, and mirror the commitment which you have made at the wedding ceremony. However, just like your relationship, it needs a good deal of care and love over the years if it is to be as vibrant as the day which your received it.

If cared for properly, then there is no reason why your wedding ring can’t last you a lifetime and act as a special reminder of your partner’s love and devotion.

Another reason to invest time and effort into the preservation of the item is due to the fact that seeing your wedding ring lose that old glow and sparkle can be heartbreaking. This is especially true when you reach older age, as the ring will not only symbolise the joining together of two people, but will also act as your physical representation of younger life. This is important to remember, as the memories which the ring will elicit in the future will keep you connected with the past, and ensure that some of your cherished memories never die.

In terms of taking care of your wedding ring, there are a few guidelines which you would be wise to follow –

Firstly, you can create a solution of one part ammonia and six parts of water which can be used to polish the ring. This is very effective in removing slight scuff marks and dirt which is collected by the ring over time.

Secondly, if you softly run a very tender brush over the ring, then this should remove quite a bit of dirt and restore the brilliance of the diamond or gem, dependant on the type of ring which you have.

Following on from this, it is a good idea to have your wedding ring, particularly if a diamond variation, cleaned professionally at least once every eighteen months. When you conduct this, then it is important that you also ask the jeweller to check the stability of the setting, just in case this has become loose.

Finally, when you are not wearing your wedding ring, then make sure that you store it safely and without being in contact with any other jewellery or metallic elements. This will safeguard the ring from scratching and dulling, and you should ideally wrap the ring in a soft, smooth pouch to ensure its safety.

If you remember to put the same amount of effort into preserving your wedding ring as you do your marriage then you will not go far wrong.
