Sometimes Valentines Day isn’t the best day to propose

Many people believe that proposing marriage, or conducting the marriage ceremony on Valentines Day is the perfect expression of their love. Whilst there is no denying that this does elicit memorable moments for numerous couples, it is also important to bear in mind that Valentines Day can be the wrong date to pick for others.

It is important that you realise that Valentines Day can be an occasion which is full of dread or apathy for many people and you should try to gain an insight into your partner’s previous experiences before you make any proposal or wedding plans.

For some people, the day can be a painful reminder of previous relationships, especially of they ended in a particularly bad manner.

In addition to this, many people feel a great deal of apathy towards Valentine’s Day and aim to repel the commercialisation of the event which dominates today’s society. If, as a couple you don’t particularly celebrate the day, then it is a wise idea not to make any commitments on it.

It is imperative that couples do not set a target of Valentine’s Day to get engaged or married, and rush into this, just because of the date. Even if you have bought the engagement ring for the proposal to be conducted on this day, it may be wise to keep hold of it, even if it is just for twenty four hours.
