Radiant Cut Diamonds
by Rob ~ February 27th, 2009. Filed under: News, Wedding Rings. The radiant cut diamond was first created in 1977 by Henry Grossbard and it has elements of both the emerald cut and the round brilliant cut. The radiant diamond is either an elegant square shape or a rectangular shape. Many diamond connoisseurs love this much underrated cut, which has, for some reason, never grasped the popularity of the masses. These diamonds look lovely when set into beautiful diamond rings.
The radiant cut is considered to be the best example of a fancy cut diamond and it is the first rectangular cut to have a complete brilliant facet pattern on both the crown and the pavilion. Radiant cut diamonds have a distinctive effect, comparable to a kaleidoscope which reflects more points of light than any other cut of diamond, making for a mesmerising jewel.
The radiant cut is straight edged and has cut corners. It has 70 facets and is very similar to a cut corners princess diamond. The cut corners are what makes this diamond cut so stunning. It allows the light to be reflected in the most wonderful ways and gives the diamond a distinctive, elegant look. Radiant cut diamonds are most often used for pendant and ring settings. When buying a radiant cut diamond, it is advisable to buy a stone with the highest possible clarity rating you can afford, as it will look much better when reflecting light.
