In this day and age there are many things which we are told that we should be wary of. This ranges from smoking, excessive drinking to eating too much tuna due to the chances of mercury poisoning!

What people really have to do is trust their own judgements a little and make sure that they have their own piece of mind satisfied in the actions which they are performing.

Some people do warn us against the perceived dangers of buying items such as engagement rings from national chain jewellery stores and focus their attention on local independent stores instead. Yet, the truth of the matter is that both types of jeweller offer different services to their clients and is very much a matter of personal preference.

Whilst the independent jeweller may have a varied collection, the chain store may be able to acquire their items at a lower price which should ultimately reduce the price which the customer has to pay for it. However, on the other hand, the independent jeweller is far more likely to hold information about the origin and history of the diamond which you are purchasing and this could become a major concern for you if you need to be sure that you are avoiding conflict diamonds.

It is also generally accepted that chain stores can usually carry out routine maintenance on your jewellery at a quicker rate that independent stores which can take longer.

An independent jeweller will generally have a higher knowledge level about their stock than national chain stores and will offer you a much more informed opinion of the choice which you are making.

Finally, have a think about what you intend doing in the future when deciding which jeweller to use. If you are the type of person who is sentimental about where you buy your jewellery from, then perhaps a national chain will be the best option. This way, you can be sure that the store will still be in existence, and if you relocate, there will most probably be a store close to you.

An independent store is far more likely to go out of business than a chain store, and this is something which is an important part of some people’s decision, as if you buy an item where the warranty demands regular inspections then you may feel more secure going to a national chain.

There are pros and cons for both types of jeweller and we hope that this article has given you food for thought in terms of weighing up all your options.
