Caring for your engagement ring - Dont’s

In order to preserve your engagement ring or wedding ring then it is advisable that you do not conduct the following;

Firstly, do not remove the ring and place it in particularly dangerous places – for example next to a sink or bath as accidents do happen and could result in the loss of the ring.

Secondly, don’t have your rings on when conducting household cleaning which involves the use of any type of chemicals. Certain household products contain substances which may harm the ring and the stone and no matter how careful you are, there is always the possibility of slight amounts of this making contact with the ring. It is therefore advisable that you remove your ring when using any chemical substances.

Following on from this, it is also important that you remove your ring whilst applying any beauty products. These can be makeup, hand cream, lotions, or nail varnish as this could result in the stone of the ring becoming dulled.

It is also important that you do not keep your ring in the same place as other jewellery. If it collides with any other item which you may have, then potentially it could result in your ring becoming marked or scratched. Keep the items separate and out of contact with each other to safeguard against this.

Finally, we know that it is hard, especially in the first few weeks of receiving the ring, but you need to be careful of touching the stone of the ring too much. Sometimes fragments of hand lotions, or oils which you have been exposed to can dull the ring and have a negative effect on their brilliance. It is therefore important that, however tempting, you do not touch the stone too much!
