Booking your wedding reception - some pointers
by Michelle ~ May 26th, 2008. Filed under: General. It is a growing trend that many people are now combining their wedding ceremony with the reception at the same location. This could be at a hotel, country house or even a football stadium. The wedding ceremony and transfer of wedding rings is usually conducted in a specially designated room, whilst the guests then retire to the surrounding grounds whilst the main function room is being prepared for the reception.
This can be a very practical and cost effective way of holding a very special wedding ceremony, particularly if the location has a symbolic meaning to the couple getting married. However, there are a couple of factors which we would like to make you aware of.
First of all, whilst the actually ceremony may be reasonably priced, you need to be careful what you are committing yourself to in terms of the reception. Will people really expect a bottle of champagne on every table of example? It is important that you are fully aware of exactly what you are paying for and the amount which each individual item is costing.
Secondly, some venues tend to have their own in house DJs for events such as weddings. More often than not, these come at a fixed price as part of the overall cost. You need to bear this in mind, particularly if you have friends who offer to do this for you for nothing or a minimal fee. You may also know some DJs who you like and trust and this could be a deciding factor on where to hold your wedding reception.
Finally, think about whether you, or some of your guests will be needing accommodation if the reception goes on late into the night. Try to organise this as early as possible, as the last thing which you will want is for some of your guests to not fully enjoy the night because of this.
