Birthstones - December

The birthstone for the month of December is Turquoise. Turquoise is named so because it originally entered Europe via Turkey. Turquoise was one of the first gemstones to be used in jewellery. In ancient times, it was believed that Turquoise was a very important sacred stone which could protect from illness and evil intentions.

Turquoise is said to bring prosperity, success, happiness and good fortune to all who wear it. It is also associated with friendship and strong bonds between friends and family. Turquoise is also said to protect the wearer from illness and improve their general well being, as well as improving communication between the giver and recipient. It is also believed to have strengthening and regenerating abilities. Turquoise is a very spiritual gemstone and when worn, is supposed to help the wearer become more spiritually aware, creative and peaceful.

Turquoise is a sky blue gemstone and was a big favourite of the wealthy in Victorian times. The well off of the time loved Turquoise because of its beautiful colour and the status associated with the then very expensive gemstone, some Victorians liked to use the stone in engagement rings.

The Turquoise can be given as a gift of friendship, spiritual awakening or a wish of good health between friends. It will strengthen bonds and heal relationships.
